Our Story

Field & Thread grew out of a love for natural fiber clothing — and the challenge of finding it. For years, we searched through secondhand racks and endless online listings, pi wardrobes made of cotton, linen, wool, and silk. We often found beautiful pieces, but it took time, patience, and more money than it should have.

We started Field & Thread to make that search easier and more affordable — a place dedicated to well-made, natural fiber clothing that’s easy to find and easy to love.

We believe in garments that feel good on your skin, last through seasons of wear, and tread lightly on the earth — pieces made to be worn, loved, and lived in for years to come.

Field and Thread is a platform dedicated to making it easy, fun, and affordable to shop for natural fiber clothing.

Why do we love natural fibers?

Kind to our Skin

Natural fiber clothing just feels better. These fibers wick away moisture and allow your skin to breathe, instead of sealing it under a rough plastic-like coating. They also react to humidity and temperature, keeping you warm in cold weather and cool in hot weather.

Durable yet Decomposable

Natural fiber clothing often maintains its quality longer than synthetic garments, and can even get softer and stronger over time… yet quickly decomposes when it’s returned to nature.

Synthetic garments often pill, lose shape with heat, and trap odors over time. Yet just like plastic, they can take hundreds of years to decompose. That’s not to mention all the micro-plastics released into the water and the air with every wash and dry.

Timeless Styles, Slow Fashion

Many of today’s fast-fashion micro-trends rely on synthetic fibers to create stretch, structure, or novelty details. Stretch is often used to make garments fit a wider range of sizes, though not always in a flattering way. Styles achieved with natural fibers may seem more limited at first, but those very limits encourage timeless design and thoughtful construction. The result is clothing that outlasts trend cycles, and when it fits, it truly flatters.

Why Secondhand?

Natural doesn’t mean no environmental impact. Large amounts of water, land, and other resources are needed to grow and process natural fibers. Dyes, finishes, and global shipping add to the footprint. Choosing secondhand extends the life of those resources already spent, keeping quality garments in circulation and out of landfills.

When we buy pre-owned natural fiber garments, we’re not just reducing waste; we’re honoring the time, craft, and materials that went into making them. It’s a small, beautiful act of sustainability — wearing what already exists, and letting it live a little longer.

A Clean and Convenient Shopping Experience

Shopping secondhand should never have to be inconvenient or unsanitary. That’s why quality control is one of our top priorities. All Field & Thread sellers apply and are approved based on a proven track record of providing buyers with quality pieces and excellent customer service. Sellers carefully inspect garments for flaws and odors, and take measurements with precision. Garments are thoughtfully packaged to prevent damage in transit, so what arrives at your door is exactly what you expected—clean, true-to-size, and ready to wear.
